How Daal Verifies Every Driver

A look behind the scenes at the five-step process that every Daal driver must pass before their first trip.

Safety is not a feature we added later — it is built into every layer of how Daal works. Before any driver makes their first delivery or completes their first ride, they go through a rigorous five-step verification process. Here is exactly what that looks like.

Step one is NIC verification. Every driver must submit a clear photo of their National Identity Card. Our system cross-references this with the Department of Registration of Persons database to confirm the identity is valid and matches the person applying. Step two is driving license verification. The license class must be appropriate for the vehicle type — a car driver cannot register as a tuk driver and vice versa. We check validity, expiry, and endorsements.

Step three is background screening. We work with a third-party partner to run a criminal record check. Any serious offence results in an automatic rejection. Minor historical offences are reviewed case by case by our safety team. Step four is photo match. The selfie submitted during registration must match the NIC photo. Our system uses a face-similarity check and our team manually reviews any low-confidence matches.

Step five is vehicle inspection. For ride drivers, the vehicle must pass a condition check — we review photos of the vehicle from four angles. It must be roadworthy, not excessively old, and display a valid revenue licence. Only drivers who pass all five steps are activated on the platform. We do not cut corners here because your safety depends on it.
